A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit, build and enhance the “Garden Club” at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton Harbor.
The mission of the Boys and Girls Club of Benton Harbor is to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens.
The club serves over 200 at risk youth ages 6 to 18 on a daily basis.
Health, Nutrition and Life Skills are a core learning experience at the club. Ms. Vivian works with club kids ages 6 to 14, and over the last several years she has implemented a “Garden Club” and teaches Master Gardening to the kids.
They have participated in local Fairs where they have “shown” their vegetables, and in recent years and have been involved in community projects such as: harvesting their vegetable’s and donating them to our local Soup Kitchen, where they have also help prepare the meal’s. The kids have also participated in our local farmer’s market.
This year the 6 to 10 year olds have participated in the window gardening where they have planted their own seeds and have been given the choice to transplant their plants in our community garden or take them home.
Check, Please! Farm To Table Festival is developing new programming with the club, “At The Farm” and “In The Kitchen”, as an educational hands-on experience. We are also donating funds to improve and increase the Community Garden at the club.
